Preventing injuries
Before you take up a new exercise activity, it's important to make
sure your joints are up to the task. I've seen many injuries because
people rush into activities that they simply aren't ready for. For
instance, you might think running is great for fitness, and it is.
But slipping on an old pair of trainers and trying to run a couple
of miles, even though you haven't done any physical activity for
years, is asking for trouble.
Always make sure you include a certain amount of weight training,
especially for the areas that will be stressed. Core training is
a must and will protect your spine from any weight bearing activities.
Contrary to popular belief, weight training will not make you bigger
but will strengthen the muscles surrounding the joint, which in
turn decreases the likelihood of injury.
